Homeless Encampment Cleanup

Property management comes with its own share of potential situations with the public that can be complicated to deal with. As times continue to be tough for people who are less fortunate, the unhoused population has grown with each passing year. While you may be doing your part to help where you can, an active homeless encampment on high-traffic commercial property can pose a number of risks to you and the greater community in the area.

A homeless encampment can host a variety of potentially harmful factors that need to be looked into. Many setups can house flammables like propane tanks, posing a high fire hazard. Other potential issues, such as the rise of unwanted pests, animals, or insects, as well as the possibility of unstable or dangerous behaviors, can increase hazards towards unhoused communities living in encampments, commercial staff, and the general public.

Reno Tahoe Junk Removal works with property management groups to help contain and clear away these active sites so that you and your staff can maintain optimum safety both during and after operating hours. After reaching out to local law enforcement to schedule an evacuation notice to the unhoused population, our team will show up to site for a full-scale homeless encampment cleanup. By taking care to remove potentially hazardous items, deep clean and sanitize the area, and protect the possessions of the unhoused, we will help to maintain your property while prioritizing public security.

FAQ on Homeless Encampment Cleanup Services

What is the process taken with a Homeless Encampment Cleanup service call?

Each homeless encampment cleanup service we perform will be different, as there are many variables that come into play with an active site.

Because of the uniqueness of every individual situation, Reno Tahoe Junk Removal has streamlined the cleanup process. By following these steps, we hope to make this process easier on you, us, and all parties involved while minimizing stress and maximizing success.

Step 1: Law Enforcement is Contacted

  • The property manager(s) of the commercial site must contact local law enforcement about the presence of the encampment on the property. From there, the proper authorities can coordinate with relevant city employees to start planning the evacuation process. Note that this must be done before Reno Tahoe Junk Removal arrives on-site.

Step 2: Evacuation and Trespassing Notices are Displayed

  • With the coordination of law enforcement, an evacuation notice is placed at the encampment to prepare for any unhoused people present on the property to relocate. Trespassing notices are also displayed to properly notify the public that private property rights should be respected during and after this process.

Step 3: Preparation and Arrival

  • After relocation, Reno Tahoe Junk Removal prepares to arrive on the property for the homeless encampment cleanout. We encourage property managers to send our team any preliminary photos of the site to better prepare us for the service call.

Step 4: Safe and Effective Cleanout

  • Our team proceeds with a thoroughly effective cleanup process to ensure the property is sanitized and safe to access. We arrive with proper safety gear, including hazmat suits, gas masks, and gloves, to ensure security from any harmful materials.

Step 5: Final Assessment

  • Reno Tahoe Junk Removal performs a final assessment of the site before marking the service call as complete. If there is an excessive presence of possible biohazards, such as mold or biological material, we may outsource to contractors for the additional care needed to sanitize the site.
