A basement cleanout in Reno, or anywhere else in the Reno-Tahoe area, means Dominic empties the level under your house of everything that piled up down there. Text a photo to (775) 316-7470. What sets a basement apart from other cleanouts is the stairs. Every box and old mattress has to come up a flight of steps before it reaches the trailer, and the room is usually years of storage that went down one piece at a time and never came back up. He has a helper, Jake.

When the garage or a spare bedroom needs clearing on the same visit, that work falls under house and garage cleanouts, and he can quote the whole place at once instead of room by room.

Size doesn't change much about how it goes. A basement with a treadmill and three boxes left in it gets the same attention as one packed wall to wall. A light load starts at the $80 minimum. A packed room fills more of the trailer, and the price climbs with it. His motto, "No job too big or too small," covers basements as much as anything.

From the full list of what goes on the truck: cleanouts from one room to the whole house.

What usually comes out of a basement cleanout?

Mostly storage that went downstairs and stayed. Boxes of old paperwork and holiday decorations, a couch or recliner that got replaced upstairs, a spare mattress, broken shelving, an old treadmill or weight bench, and kids' furniture that outlived the kids. Paint cans show up a lot too, half full and years old on a shelf. Sometimes an old fridge or freezer is down there as well.

You might be making room, or going through a parent's house as part of an estate cleanout. If you're getting a rental ready for the next tenant, the basement can go along with eviction and rental property cleanouts.

Every piece has to come up the stairs by hand, and the big ones, like a sleeper sofa or a heavy dresser, are the hardest part. After a 1,200 pound grand piano, a dresser on a basement staircase doesn't faze him. That carrying is most of the labor on a basement job, and it's the part you shouldn't try on your own.

Is there anything in a basement he won't haul?

Yes. He won't take a propane tank, anything with asbestos, medical or biohazard waste, or any item that has bed bugs or pests in it. A stored mattress or couch with bed bugs in it has to stay, so say so up front. Hazardous waste of any kind gets turned down too, so anything in that category stays put on its shelf. If an older basement has material you suspect has asbestos in it, leave it alone and mention it when you send photos so it stays out of the job.

Leftover paint goes on the load. Paint cans are part of the job. An old fridge or freezer down there can go on the trailer too. Everything else in the room can usually go.

Where does everything from a basement cleanout end up?

Donation comes first. Whatever still works is set aside for Goodwill, and a lot of basement storage qualifies, because it went down in decent shape and nobody touched it again. Kids' furniture that held up and a recliner that still reclines usually fit that donation pile. The bed frames, steel shelving and a busted weight bench head to a scrap yard, where the metal gets recycled. The paint cans off those shelves end up at Greymar for disposal.

Only the true junk, the stuff nobody can use, rides out to the landfill in Stead or the Carson City landfill. Damp cardboard, cracked plastic bins and anything ruined down there usually lands in that last pile.

How much does a basement cleanout cost?

The floor is $80. Above that, he prices by the share of the trailer your basement fills. Photos of the pile are usually enough for a price, though he'll come look in person when a job calls for it. Basements often do, since a room packed to the walls is hard to judge from a picture taken at the bottom of the stairs.

The quote covers the whole job. That price takes in the loading, the hauling and the disposal, and you'll never see a separate line for dump fees. His quote stands unless the job turns out bigger than your photos showed. For a sense of scale, he quotes a couch at $125 to $225, a mattress at $80 to $125 and a paint can at $10 to $20.

How does he get everything up the basement stairs?

By hand, one trip at a time. It starts when you get in touch. First he wants to know what's going, then he looks over your photos or sets up a visit, and when you okay the price, he puts a day and a time on the calendar. Photos taken from both ends of the stairs help, since they show him the carry along with the pile.

When he gets there, he walks you through the plan before lifting a thing. Then it all comes up the steps and out to the trailer. Once the floor is bare, he tidies the area and walks the space with you one last time. He works Monday through Saturday, any hour, and can get there same day, most days. A 75 mile drive is within his range, so the list of towns he serves around Reno and Lake Tahoe runs a long way past city limits.

“I had a great experience with Dominic and Reno Junk Removal. Professional, reasonably priced, on time, same day service. My garage was filled with old toxic chemicals from the swimming pool and cans of paint that needed to be properly disposed of. What a relief it was to watch the mess disappear and to know it was not going to have a negative impact on the environment by just going into a landfill. Highly recommended!”

“He was responsive on text, gave me a quote from the images I sent, and able to pick up a load of stuff from our garage less than 48 hours after initial contact. Day of he was running late due to another job but texted ahead of time to let me know. Loaded stuff on his own and was off! Great service and a great price. Would definitely recommend.”

“Can’t say enough good things about Reno Junk Removal. Dom is very professional and responsive. He and Tyler came to my house the same day and picked up and hauled off a quarter of a garage worth of cardboard. The amount of time they saved me from trip after trip of taking it all to the dump was well worth the reasonable price. I highly recommend Reno Junk Removal.”

Questions

Questions about basement cleanout.

How much does it cost to clear out a basement in Reno?
Jobs start at $80. Above that, it comes down to how much trailer space your basement load uses, and loading, hauling and dump fees are all in his quote.
Do I have to carry things up from the basement first?
No. He brings every piece up and out, so leave it on the basement floor or the shelf it's been on.
Will he haul old paint cans from the basement?
Yes. Each can runs $10 to $20, and Greymar handles the disposal.
Can a propane tank go with the rest of the basement junk?
No. Propane tanks are refused on every job, and so is hazardous waste, so set the tank aside before the cleanout.
Can he come out on a weekend?
Saturday, yes, at any hour. He doesn't work Sundays. Monday through Saturday it's same day, most days. Text a photo to (775) 316-7470.
How do I pay for a basement cleanout?
By cash, check, Venmo, Zelle, or a credit or debit card.
