Dominic does waste recycling in Reno and out through the Reno-Tahoe area, taking one messy pile apart before any of it gets dumped. Pieces with some life left head to Goodwill, anything metal heads for a scrap yard, and only true garbage rides to the landfill. Text a photo to (775) 316-7470. That three-way split is the difference between this and hauling everything off to one place. A garage or a back lot usually holds usable things, metal and plain garbage all in one heap. Each kind leaves for a different place.

You're probably clearing out years of buildup. Maybe it's your garage full of old bikes and metal shelving, or a rental the last tenant left full. A broken dresser can be buried in the middle of it, and that's fine. If your pile is mostly good furniture and boxed household goods, donated goods pickup fits it better. If it's mostly bagged garbage, that's trash removal and disposal.

Most piles are a mix of all three. You don't need to know what counts as scrap or what a donation center will want. Maybe it's a few chairs worth donating, stacked on a heap of broken metal shelving with a bag of trash wedged under it. The chairs head to Goodwill, the shelving to the scrap yard, and the bag to the landfill.

What goes into a waste recycling job?

A waste recycling job is a mixed pile that gets taken apart by where each piece belongs. Say your garage corner after a move holds a metal bed frame, two nightstands in decent shape, a rusted grill, a box of kitchen things, a torn recliner and a few bags of garbage. Nobody has to sort it first.

Pulled apart, the nightstands and the kitchen box can go to donation, the frame and the grill go to scrap, and only the recliner and the bags head for the landfill. The same pattern shows up in a shed, a basement, a rental after move-out or the back room of a shop, wherever stuff has piled up without anyone deciding what to keep.

Where does a recycling pickup take your stuff?

Donation comes first, then scrap, then the landfill. Furniture and household goods someone else can use go to Goodwill. Anything metal, like a bed frame, a filing cabinet or a tangle of shelving brackets, gets dropped at a scrap yard and recycled. The leftovers, the stuff nobody can use or scrap, get dumped at the landfill in Carson City or the one in Stead.

The order matters. A dresser with a stuck drawer can still have a second life in someone else's bedroom, and a steel frame doesn't need to take up landfill space. A moldy rug or a bag of broken toys has nowhere else to go, so that's what the landfill is for. A TV runs $80, so mention it when you reach out.

How much does waste recycling cost in Reno?

The floor is $80, and above that the price tracks the share of the truck your load fills. That number covers loading, hauling and disposal. Dump fees sit inside it and never come as a separate bill. Sorting is part of the job, so a pile headed three ways is still priced by space.

Send a picture of the heap and he prices the whole job from it. That price stands as long as the job isn't bigger than what the picture showed. If the heap is too large or too tangled to read from a picture, Dominic drives out and prices it on site. Ask him how he charges. It's the question he hears most. He takes Zelle, Venmo, a check, cash or a card, credit or debit. What can't be recycled or hauled at all is listed on the what-we-take page for Reno.

How does a recycling pickup go from first call to empty garage?

You call or text first and describe what's in the heap. From that he either prices it or books a time to look in person. After you say yes to the number, he books the pickup with you and arrives when he said, within a 30 minute to one hour window. First thing on site, he walks you through the plan, pointing out what's bound for Goodwill, what's bound for scrap and what's bound for the landfill.

After that he hauls it all out from whatever room it's in. The metal shelving in the basement and the boxes upstairs can stay where they sit, mixed together. You don't have to move a thing to the curb first. Once the room is bare, he tidies the spot and walks it with you one last time.

How far does the recycling pickup travel?

He'll drive as far as 75 miles for a job, and a pile that far out is sorted exactly like one in town. A garage pile in South Lake Tahoe or Truckee still goes three ways, and only the real trash heads to the landfill in Carson City or Stead. The usable furniture still goes to Goodwill and the metal still goes to a scrap yard.

Towns from Incline Village and Kings Beach to Gardnerville and Fernley are on the route, along with Minden, Virginia City and a few spots without their own page. The rest are named on the list of towns he hauls from. Jobs run Monday through Saturday, and Sunday is closed. Text a photo to (775) 316-7470.

Questions

Questions about waste recycling.

How much does a waste recycling pickup cost?
It starts at $80. Above that, cost follows the truck space your load fills, with loading, hauling and disposal all part of it.
Do I have to separate the metal from the trash?
No. Leave the pile mixed. Pulling it apart into donation, scrap and trash is the job itself.
Does the scrap metal actually get recycled?
Yes. Every metal piece is dropped at a scrap yard for recycling. Furniture and household goods in good shape head to Goodwill, and garbage heads to the landfill.
Can old paint cans go in the load?
Yes. Leftover paint gets taken to Greymar to be disposed of. A paint can runs $10 to $20.
Can a TV go out with the rest of the pile?
Yes. A TV runs $80. Text a photo to (775) 316-7470.
Can a property manager book a pickup for a rental unit?
Yes. The leftover furniture, metal and trash can stay mixed in the unit, and each part goes to Goodwill, the scrap yard or the landfill. The manager books it the same way an owner would, by phone or text, saying yes to the price and picking the pickup time.
