Dominic does storage unit cleanout in Reno and around the Reno-Tahoe area, from a single locker of boxes to a big unit packed to the ceiling. Text a photo to (775) 316-7470. A storage unit cleanout is a different job from clearing a house. The load has sat in one tight space for months or years, stacked floor to ceiling, far from the home it came out of. Everything comes out through one door, and most of it hasn't been touched since it went in.

Maybe you moved into a smaller place and never unpacked. Maybe you're closing out a unit after a parent passed, which often goes along with an estate cleanout at the house. Or you manage a unit that has to be empty before the next renter takes it. Calls get answered at any hour, so the night you finally decide to give up the unit, you can send the shot right then.

From the full list of what goes on the truck: cleanouts from one room to the whole house.

What is usually inside a storage unit that needs clearing out?

Most units hold the overflow from a move. Boxes of dishes and old paperwork, a couch that didn't fit the new living room, a dresser, a mattress and a bed frame leaning against the wall. Toward the back is the stuff nobody has looked at in years. Exercise equipment, bins of holiday decorations, a fridge that quit, metal shelving with half-empty paint cans on it. Some of the boxes have gone soft from sitting.

Leave the stacks the way they are. He reaches the back of the unit himself. The photo you text to (775) 316-7470 is where you mark the boxes that stay. Take out anything you want to keep before the day. The rest goes on the truck and the unit is left empty.

How does Dominic get a storage unit emptied?

He clears the whole unit once you approve a price from your photos. Your pictures usually get you an estimate. If they can't show the whole unit, he'll come by the facility and quote it in person. After you okay the quote, the two of you pick a day and an hour, and he's at the facility when he said he'd be. He walks you through the plan for emptying it before the first box comes out.

Then it comes out front to back. With the last piece on the truck, he tidies the floor of the unit and walks through it with you one last time. If your facility needs a gate code or a name on file at the office, sort that out with the manager ahead of time so the day isn't held up at the gate.

How much does a storage unit cleanout cost?

Jobs start at $80, and a full unit costs more than that. What you pay comes down to how much truck space the unit's contents fill. A small locker with a few boxes sits near the low end, and a big unit stacked to the ceiling takes a lot more space. To give you a feel for it, one couch alone is $125 to $225, one mattress is $80 to $125, and a TV is $80.

Dominic quotes from a photo, so make it a good one. Get the door all the way open and shoot from the aisle so the depth shows. The quote is for the whole job, with loading, hauling and dump fees inside it. That quote stands as long as the job isn't bigger than your photo showed. In a storage unit, a second row of boxes can be tucked behind the first.

What won't he haul out of a storage unit?

Four things stay in the unit. Propane tanks stay, so pull them out from beside the grill or the camping gear. Bed bugs or pests on anything mean it stays as well, so a sofa or carton with chew marks can't go. Asbestos and medical or biohazard waste are refused as well.

Leftover paint can go, at $10 to $20 a can, and Greymar takes it for disposal. Most other questions about what can come out are answered in the rundown of items he hauls and turns down. If something in the unit has you unsure, take a close photo of it and send it along with the shot of the whole unit.

Where do the things from a storage unit end up?

Usable things head to Goodwill before anything else. Metal is dropped at a scrap yard for recycling, and the true trash is hauled to the landfill in Stead or the one in Carson City. A dresser in one piece, kitchen boxes that never got opened and a solid table all go to donation. Bed rails, steel shelving, a bike frame and the grill count as metal.

Torn boxes, water-stained papers and a recliner with the stuffing coming out are the trash. So much of a unit was packed away in decent shape and simply forgotten, so the sorting on the way out matters. If most of the unit is still usable, donated goods pickup is the closer fit.

Can he clear a storage unit outside Reno?

Yes. Facilities as far as 75 miles out are within his range, which puts units in Gardnerville, Fallon, Fernley, Dayton, Truckee, Carson City and Sparks in reach. You can check your town on the list of places he drives to for jobs.

Timing matters when a rental is ending. He works Monday through Saturday and is closed Sunday, so a lease that runs out on a Sunday needs the job done by Saturday. When the move-out date is close, his timing is same day, most days, and he gives you an arrival window of 30 minutes to an hour. Text a photo to (775) 316-7470.

“I had a great experience with Dominic and Reno Junk Removal. Professional, reasonably priced, on time, same day service. My garage was filled with old toxic chemicals from the swimming pool and cans of paint that needed to be properly disposed of. What a relief it was to watch the mess disappear and to know it was not going to have a negative impact on the environment by just going into a landfill. Highly recommended!”

“He was responsive on text, gave me a quote from the images I sent, and able to pick up a load of stuff from our garage less than 48 hours after initial contact. Day of he was running late due to another job but texted ahead of time to let me know. Loaded stuff on his own and was off! Great service and a great price. Would definitely recommend.”

“Can’t say enough good things about Reno Junk Removal. Dom is very professional and responsive. He and Tyler came to my house the same day and picked up and hauled off a quarter of a garage worth of cardboard. The amount of time they saved me from trip after trip of taking it all to the dump was well worth the reasonable price. I highly recommend Reno Junk Removal.”

Questions

Questions about storage unit cleanout.

What is the least a storage unit cleanout costs?
$80 is the minimum. Bigger units run higher because more of the truck gets filled, and the dump fees come built in.
Do I have to move everything to the front of the unit?
No. Leave it all where it's stacked, back corner included, and he'll do the lifting. You don't need to pull anything into the aisle.
How soon can my unit be cleared?
Same day, most days. Hours run around the clock Monday through Saturday, Sunday is his day off, and you get a window of 30 minutes to an hour before he arrives. Text a photo to (775) 316-7470.
Can he clear just part of a unit?
Yes. Point out what's going and leave what you're keeping. A partial load is priced by the truck space it fills, the same as a full unit, and "No job too big or too small" is how Dominic sees it.
How do I pay for a storage unit cleanout?
He takes cash, check, Venmo, Zelle, or a credit or debit card.
