Dominic, owner of Reno Tahoe Junk Removal, handles residential dumpster rental for homes in Reno and across the Reno-Tahoe area. Text a photo to (775) 316-7470 to set one up. A 20 yard roll-off sits at your place for a week and you fill it as you go. It suits you if your project throws off junk every day, like a kitchen tear-out or a garage you're finally sorting.
A haul is priced by how much room the load takes on the truck, and it all goes in one visit. The roll-off works on a different clock. It's $455 for the week with 4 tons included, and the pile can grow as the project does. If your stuff is ready now and you'd rather not lift any of it, residential junk removal is the better fit. If you can't tell which one you need, the photo usually settles it.

What do homeowners rent a residential dumpster for?
Mostly for jobs that make junk in waves. A bathroom remodel fills a box with tile, drywall and the old vanity over a few days. Carpet and pad from a floor job go in the same way. A move-out turns up one closet at a time. Clearing a parent's house can take a whole week of sorting, and nobody wants bags stacked in the driveway while the family decides what to keep.
Maybe you're doing the work yourself, clearing out a family house or turning over a rental between tenants. Either way, you need a place to put things the moment you're done with them, without booking a pickup for every load. There's one box, a 20 yard roll-off with 4 tons included, so on a remodel the weight is worth watching. What fits in the 20 yard box is on the 20-yard dumpster rental page.
Where does the junk go after the dumpster is picked up?
Trash goes to the landfill, either the Stead landfill or the Carson City landfill. Metal goes to a scrap yard to be recycled, so the old water heater or a bent bed frame is worth keeping in one spot instead of buried under drywall.
Donation comes first. Furniture and household goods that still have some use go to Goodwill. That matters on a cleanout, where a good dresser or a set of chairs often turns up halfway through the week. Set those pieces off to the side and point them out, so they can head for a second home instead of the box. A dresser set aside on day two is one less thing in the landfill.
What can't go in a residential dumpster?
Anything with bed bugs or other pests is refused. So are propane tanks, asbestos, and medical or biohazard waste. That list matters more with a dumpster than with a haul, because you're the one loading it. A pest-infested couch or mattress has to stay out too, even if the rest of the room goes in.
If a remodel uncovers material you're unsure about, stop and ask before it hits the box.
Half-used paint cans are their own case. Leftover paint goes to Greymar for disposal, and a can runs $10 to $20, so keep them apart from the rest of the load and mention how many you have.
How does booking a residential dumpster work?
It starts with a text or a call. He answers the phone any time, day or night, and asks what the project is. If the job needs a closer look, he comes out for an in-person quote instead. Once you approve the price, he sets a day and time for the drop-off and another for the pickup. He shows up on time, inside a 30 minute to one hour arrival window.
When your rental is done, the box goes out, the area gets cleaned up, and he does a final walkthrough. He works with a helper, Jake. If you manage a rental and won't be on site, say so when you book so the drop-off and pickup line up with the tenant.
Some things are too heavy or awkward to lift into a box. Ask about having those hauled instead. A hot tub, for one, is a haul at $350 to $450, and he has had one out in under 10 minutes.
How much does a residential dumpster rental cost?
The 20 yard roll-off rents for $455 for one week. Keep it longer and it's $15 a day after the week is done. The rental includes 4 tons, and anything past that is $95 a ton. Heavy material adds weight fast, so mention it when you text.
If you'd rather not load it yourself, a haul starts at $80, and how a haul is priced comes down to a photo of the pile, with a quote that holds unless the job turns out bigger than the photo showed.
He takes cash, credit or debit card, Venmo, Zelle and check.
Can you rent a dumpster outside Reno, up at the lake?
Yes. He covers Reno and the whole Reno-Tahoe area, from Sparks and Stead out to Fernley and Fallon, south to Carson City and Gardnerville, and up to Incline Village, Truckee and South Lake Tahoe. Smaller spots count too: Verdi, Dayton, Washoe Valley, Minden and Virginia City are all inside the area. He drives up to 75 miles for a job. You can check the full list of towns he serves before you text.
Work runs Monday through Saturday, any hour of the day. As for timing, he gets there same day, most days. He's closed Sunday, so plan the start and end of your rental week around that.

“I found Dom on Facebook, and he responded within moments. He was at my house within 30 minutes with his dumpster. At the time I didn’t realize that he could help us. I didn’t know what I was going to do was entailing so much that day. But I managed to fill his dumpster with all kinds of stuff. I will be using him again for more projects around my house. One thing I liked is that he gave me a price and he stuck to that price. He was very courteous and prompt. I really appreciate that in young people today when they’re polite and courteous. I will definitely be using Dom again. Thank you Dominic. I really appreciate your help.”
“I had a great experience with Dominic and Reno Junk Removal. Professional, reasonably priced, on time, same day service. My garage was filled with old toxic chemicals from the swimming pool and cans of paint that needed to be properly disposed of. What a relief it was to watch the mess disappear and to know it was not going to have a negative impact on the environment by just going into a landfill. Highly recommended!”
“Great work. Fair price. Easy to work with. Highly recommend.”
